Our Story

If you have found your way here, it is likely because you are carrying a weight that feels impossible to bear.  You might be navigating the relentless pressure of family dynamics, feeling exploited by an adult child or watching your financial security and personal peace disappear under the threat of manipulation.

Before anything else, please hear this: you are not alone and there is absolutely no reason for you to feel ashamed.

The Parents Boundary Club was born from our own blended family's deep-seated conflicts.  We built this community because we have walked this exact path.  We understand the specific, crushing heartbreak of seeing your own children transform love and support into tools for financial gain and emotional blackmail.

Our experiences started years ago when we loaned roughly £20,000 to my wife’s eldest son and his girlfriend for home improvements. Acting on intuition, we legally secured that loan through a solicitor with a charge on the property.  It was a vital decision because when their relationship ended and the house was sold, we recovered our funds — money we certainly would have lost without legal protection.

Years later, when we moved abroad, we were delighted when my wife’s middle son decided to move nearby.  We had helped him financially before and he had always repaid us, so we trustingly lent him €65,000 for renovations on his new home without interest.  We agreed to a modest repayment plan of €100 monthly.  While we knew this wouldn't clear the debt in our lifetime, the goal was simply to support his transition.

Despite our gut feelings, we failed to finalize a formal contract at the solicitor’s office which turned out to be a massive oversight.  Three years later, not a single payment has been made and all contact has ceased.  Heartbreakingly, even when his mother underwent life-saving triple bypass surgery, he maintained his distance, refusing even a simple conversation with the woman who loved him most.

Further betrayal followed in our UK-based business, which we had successfully built over 32 years.  Ready to semi-retire, we left my son in charge with a generous salary of £100,000 and the promise of inheritance, believing our small retirement income was safe.  Instead, he visited us claiming the company was failing and our income had to be cut.

Suspicious, we requested the records from our accountant.  The truth was devastating: the company was actually flourishing. Our son was siphoning large sums from the business to fund a lavish lifestyle and pay his personal tax debts.  It took us over a year of grueling legal battles to reclaim control and save the company from ruin.

The emotional toll was staggering.  The messages from him were cruel and abusive.  The stress caused severe health issues, including chronic nosebleeds and insomnia that required medical intervention.  It was easy to look back and blame ourselves for trusting someone who was our favourite person in the world, never imagining they would intentionally cause such pain.

During recovery, a local physiotherapist shared that he sees people every day with similar stories of parental exploitation.  Hearing about others breaking down in his office was our wake-up call.  We realized that our isolation was an illusion.  We created this club to ensure no other parent has to face this betrayal alone, providing a safe space where we can reclaim our lives and our boundaries together.
